On September 4, 2024, the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia (PAM) joined forces with SMK (P) Methodist Kuala Lumpur to host a vibrant Psoriasis Awareness Activity, sparking curiosity and compassion in the hearts of over 450 enthusiastic students. This dynamic event was designed not just to educate, but to empower the next generation with knowledge about psoriasis and skin health, fostering empathy for those living with this condition.

The event kicked off with an inspiring address by Dr. Raoul Sibert, Deputy Director of the Health Department of Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. His insightful talk on psoriasis captivated the students, followed by an engaging session led by Ms. Sofia Lovi, PAM’s President, who emphasized the importance of empathy and volunteerism in supporting people with psoriasis. These talks were complemented by interactive quiz activities that brought the learning to life, making the event both informative and fun.

The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students eagerly participated, asking questions and diving deep into the discussions. They learned not only the symptoms of psoriasis but also the profound impact the condition can have on individuals’ lives, and how to be allies to those affected. The event also emphasised on dispelling common myths about the disease underscoring the fact that psoriasis is a non-contagious, chronic autoimmune disease affecting millions around the world.

PAM is immensely proud of the success of this initiative, which opened students’ eyes to the realities of living with psoriasis and planted the seeds of compassion in their minds. We hope this knowledge will ripple through schools and communities, fostering more supportive and inclusive environments for all.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Puan Chan Peck Fong, the school’s principal, and the dedicated team of teachers and administrators who helped bring this event to life. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible volunteers and, most of all, the students who made this day so memorable.  PAM also is grateful to the funding support from the Ministry of Health for this activity.

Together, we can continue to spread awareness and work towards improving the lives of those living with psoriasis.
